I was a bit reluctant to get up for today's ride. I had breakfast early in the morning and took a 1 hour nap. I managed to convince myself to get up and go for a ride. I was a bit light headed, so I fed some grapes, part of a banana and a bit of Gatorade. In 10 minutes, I was already feeling better. The weather is beautiful. The wind was moderate, from the South East. Not ideal for a Keene ride, but not so bad either. I made it to the summit of the descent in good time. I posted a sub 8 minute segment. I cruised the downhill. I put in two good digs over the risers. They felt so good with the wind on my back! As I was making my way down and reached the Loop Monument, I noticed there was a train on the loop with some smoke on one of the carts. I pulled over to take photos and point the GoPro camera in the right direction. After a few moments, I got back on the road and made my way to the base. A few hundred yards before the base, some fire trucks passed by with their lights on. I was wondering how bad the train fire was. It somewhat motivated me to make it back there just to see. When i reached the base, I removed my skull cap and newspaper from my jersey. From there, it was non-stop climbing. The legs and body felt good. I was able to hold no less than moderate tempo most of the way. I put it in my easy gear when faced with a headwind. The landmarks went quick. I had a few things to think about while making my way back up the mountain. When I was nearing the Lower Loop, the fire trucks were on their way back. So, must not have been anything major. I was keeping track of time, trying to estimate the ETA to the top. I was within a few minutes. I think I posted a 1:08-ish hours to the summit. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments rest and made my way back home. I shut it down after reaching the top of Weston. Concentration was good. Minimal lapses or gremlins. The morale felt better when I got out. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Some right knee soreness in the last couple miles of the climb. It eventually subsided. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. I went through most of my sport drink, no water. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, I saw one cyclist with a foldable bike at the Loop Monument. Not sure if he was on his way down or up.
