Wow! What a great day to get out. They predicted rain, but when I got up it was clear skies all the way. I took a quick nap after breakfast, then I got up and got suited and prepped the bike. I was debating where to go based on the wind conditions. It appeared a bit turbulent when I stepped outside to check. I ended up wearing exactly what I needed. Arms, knees, head cap, thick base layer, and sheet of newspaper in the jersey. As I was riding up OTR, I noticed my rear tire going squishy. It was a flat. I found a convenient spot to fix the flat. I got everything right. I had exactly what I needed and wasn't in any distress. Just my own patience to worry about. It took about 10 to 12 minutes to fix. I was taking my time in order to get it right. The inflation kit worked like a charm. I used a CO2 cartridge and it inflated the tire to the desired pressure. After that, the bike looked good, so I got back on the road and continued the ride. I had no problems there after. I don't recall the time to the summit of OTR. The Banducci Wall had minimal traffic mitigation. The legs felt responsive. I did moderate tempo for the remainder of the climb. When I reached the summit, I pulled over to rest for a few moments. I checked the GoPro, let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. There was some traffic that caught up to me. The wind was in my face, so it felt safe. The Trek through the farmlands went quick. I had a mild headwind at that point. It lifted the morale a bit because I knew that I was going to have nice tailwind on the way back. I stretched a bit on the bike just before the climb on the backside of SS. After reaching the top, I made my way down the mountain. I put in an out of the saddle dig to gain speed and practice sprinting from the drops. I think I pushed near 500 watts or so. I ended up stopping at the local park to BIO and then got back on the road. It was around 1:05 hours into the ride as I passed through the tunnel. I zipped through town and got back to Banducci for the return. The return trip was more or less what I expected. Fairly quick with the aid of a tailwind. I think I passed Boss Hogs in around 1:25 hours. So, I was doing good time. In the meantime, I was assessing my provisions. I went through most of my sport drink, but had plenty of water. The last climb went quick. Again, aided by a tailwind. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to feed a Clif Bar. After feeding, got back on the road and made my way to Route 202. Route 202 had minimal traffic mitigation, so it was mostly downhill relaxing to OTR. OTR was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and then made my way back home. I shut it down at the summit of Weston. Concentration was good. Although I had a flat tire, I didn't allow it to tarnish my morale. I was determined to go to SS. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Just a bit of soreness in the hands and the usual sense of fatigue. The sit bones were a bit sensitive to start, but never escalated and went mostly way. Nutrition was good. I had just enough sport drink to get me home. The Clif Bar that I fed did its trick. I drank more than half my water. Gear worked flawless. Fixing the flat went just as it should. Other notes, I saw one e-cyclist as I was fixing the flat.
