Day 22 Nothing at all inspiring about today's ride. Late start at 10am to miss early rain worked, but made for a faster ride. Which was fine on cool humid weather on okay roads. We made good time. There was nothing doing on wet humid cool overcast day on the beach island we crossed near Topsail Beach, Surf City and Ocean Beach and North Topsail Beach. We rode straight through. After a quick turkey sandwich lunch at Napoli Cafe (Sneads Ferry) just back on the mainland, we rode on to find a good packed and graded sand road parallel to 17 for a bit. Saved a bit of traffic risk/noise. Another flat tire hit not 5 miles from the hotel (mile 64). I backtracked a tiny bit to get off RT17 to a tire repair place for a safe place to work and they did let me use their air! Thank you Chico's tire service. Chris rode back to me to help out too. Change went better because the "new" tire was not a tubeless ready tire stuck in a tubeless ready rim. So it came off easy as expected. New tube and we were on our way with use of the station's compressor air. Chris had discovered a crack in his Garmin gps mount, likely from a fall the bike had in high wind at a stop before this. He went to Lowes after dinner to get some glue, glued it up, and it seems fine after a night of being "clamped" by water bottle on it. Long fast ride will need a good night's sleep. Expect to go as long tomorrow to New Bern. But we'll have 2 more hours to do it. Maybe there will be inspiration for pics. Bike Shop: Dick's Sporting Goods Breakfast: Lunch: Napoli Cafe (Sneads Ferry) Hotel: Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Jacksonville Dinner: Logan's Roadhouse, walked. went to Dick's Sporting Goods afterwards to pick up yet another spare tube.
