A ride on the NH Ice Cream Trail to Bly Farm, Wolfeboro, NH. Ride begins and ends at Miss Wakefield Diner, Wakefield, NH. Begin on Rt16 heading N, careful of fast & heavy traffic, but 16 has wide shoulders, and it's only a short stretch. This could be avoided by finding a better parking spot. Escape Rt 16 onto Wakefield Road, find Wakefield Corner National Historic District with Inn, Church, Meeting House etc etc. Head S on Rt 153 (Pub alert). Cross Rt 16 and continue to Kings Highway to head toward Wolfeboro. Check out the Alpacas, skittish when a quiet bike rolls past suddenly. Nice riding all the way on Kings into Wolfeboro, to the park with Civil War Monument, and Rotary Club of Wolfeboro Street Clock. Downtown find shops, pubs, street food, and The Mount Washington in port. Railroad Ave brings you to the old Depot building and Public Facilities! Also, the start of the nice Cotton Valley Rail Trail. Unpaved but ride-able by road bike perhaps, since it's hard packed and washboard free. Nicer than riding the alternative Rt28 up to Bly's. Crossing Rt 28 find the Wright Museum of WW II. Trail rides past a boat launch onto Wentworth Lake, and Albee town Beach, where you can wait a while with a Little Free Library. End the Trail section at Fernald and the Cotton Valley Rail Trail Clubhouse. Onto Rt 109 to Rt 28 for a short hop to Bly Farm for ice cream. Back onto Rt 109 for the ride back to Miss Wakefield, on the Governor's Road past Wentworth State Park and Wentworth Historic Site. Don't miss the turn onto Lyford Road or you'll have to climb the hill back up to it, or give up and ride Rt 109 back to the Diner. The start of Lyford Road is UNPAVED, but hard packed and well graded so it should be ride-able by road bike. Turn onto Clark. Did you see THAT? Then Gage Hill. Home stretch on Rt 16 S back to the car. Found the 6th penny of the ride series within sight of the finish. Stay off the Moose.
