At long last, we got to participate in an organized ride. Last year’s Farm to Fork was cancelled due to the catastrophic flooding that devastated northern Vermont. This year’s ride went off without a hitch, and was held under mostly cloudless skies, featuring a stiff southerly wind, and humid warmth, with highs in the upper eighties. Gina and I bailed on the full fondo and instead completed the 43-mile medio. Atanas and Stuart opted for the entire 60+ miles. For my part, I’m glad we decided on the shorter route. Granted, I would have been able to do the full event, but I would have been mighty beat and good for nothing afterwards! I don’t think I’d want to do something like this again in spite of having enjoyed myself. Being surrounded by hundreds of cyclists all competing for the limited facilities available is not my ideal situation. I much prefer smaller group rides. I’m also not a big fan of stopping every so often to sample the local cuisine. I wanna ride, not stuff my effin face!
