Today's weather was cool and partly cloudy. The majority of the ride was done in cloud cover, but the temperature was comfortable. I wore 1 base, knees, arms, and skull cap. The winds were from the South, so I was unsure what the direction of the wind was going to be on Highline. Turns out that there was a headwind on the way out, and it was fierce. As, usual the headwind was relentless, and I was doing my best to keep focused. It took me about 15 additional minutes to make it to willow springs. Going into the ride, I knew that there was going to be a headwind in one direction and the opposite in the other direction. So, the tailwind was in the return trip (west). This was the part of the ride that was a real treat. No doubt setting a good if not best time in this direction. Basically, like a kite pulling me along. I made it back to Banducci in no-time. My concentration on the way out was no better than average on the way out and much better on the way back as ,my morale went up a bit given the tailwind was pushing me along. The wind was more of a cross-tail/head, so my balance was a bit skewed. But overall leg balance was spot on. The ailment of this ride was my left hip. It was about the being in the low profile position that caused a little agitation in that area. It lasted, maybe 5 to 10 minutes. My gear was working well, I put on my skull cap after about 4 minutes on the bike. It proved to be a wise choice. Other notes, my knee warmers needed some adjustments to keep it in a comfortable position. I think the seem above the knee has to be on the middle of the knee cap to keep it from moving up or down the leg, ie firmly positioned.
Edit: Tempo. I did modest tempo on the way out, no heroics, just saving my legs for the return trip. I ended up doing high tempo on the way back, but staying below the redline.
