Today was an unusual day. I got up. Wasn't looking forward to the afternoon ride, much. The route pointed to SS, as it was next in line. I thought to myself, how about just the non-SS loop? Well. I had breakfast, took a nap, and got up. I decided to go up the Alpine Forest, with plans to do the non-SS loop. The weather was great! in the mid/upper 50's. Winds from the North West. I wore arms/knees/1 base layer. I felt comfortable. So, I headed to the Alpine Forest. Got the end of OTR in average time. I felt better than the time was indicating. I got up the Banducci Wall, then headed up through the Alpine Forest. Around that time, I was feeling good and had thoughts of doing the SS route. By the time I reached the summit, I had my eyes set on the entire route. I took a few moments rest at the summit and headed to SS. I kept the tempo moderate, may a bit more, here and there. I calculated that the Alpine Forest added about 15 minutes to the overall time. This was confirmed when I reached the SS tunnel. It was around 1:17 hours when I got there. The return trip was more of the usual stuff. Eager to get off of Banducci and head back on the farm roads. When I reached the last climb, CVR, my legs felt good. I was able to hold a good tempo for the duration of the ride. When I reaced the summit, I stopped to change batteries on the GoPro. From there it was non-stop back to the door. Route 202 felt safe today. Only a handful of cars passed, and I was able to put in a good dig to the intersection. After that, it was fun and games. Concentration was spot on. Balance and form felt good. Ailments consisted of some right upper knee soreness while increasing the tempo. Gear is working flawless. Other notes, no other cyclists today.
