Warren & I had another great day snowshoeing & exploring the area to the east of Mt Spokane. Our trek began and concluded at Lodge #2 parking lot. New snow had fallen the day before and as such there were no tracks anywhere. The snow was soft and not extremely heavy so we sank in approximately 5-8 inches with each step. Most of our route was off trail and we had the privilege of summiting two additional nearby mountain tops which yielded spectacular views. The wind was blowing steady and hard at the higher elevations but it was quite pleasant lower and in the valleys. As I've said in the past, Mount Spokane State Park is truly a gem here in NE Washington to include the surrounding area. Snowshoeing is an excellent way to explore the park as there are very few places one can't reach. Remember, preparation is paramount when venturing into the backcountry. In so doing you can go with confidence and those that make the effort will quite likely experience a whole new world opening up to them. Enjoy!
