This ride was the Vineyard Tour put on by the Umpqua Velo Bike Club. Last year it was held in mid to late September. The 2023 courses had to be altered at the last minute (day before) due to wildfire smoke. The rides started from the Triple Oak Vault Winery in Oakland, OR. Foggy 8 am start, with temps in the low to mid 40s. Some modification to the initial short loop compared to last year. Instead of around 7-8 miles it was nearly 14. Nice warm up with a couple short, mellow hills. The fog dissipated by 930 am, on the Old Pioneer Rd climb a couple miles out of Oakland. A few more route changes between Nonpariel Rd and the Plat K rest stop. Came into the rest stop the opposite direction from last year. Main climbing occurred from Elkhead Rd to the final rest stop at Meadows Estate Winery (mile 49.5). The final climb was Metz Hill at mile 53. Fantastic weather day for the ride, other than the morning fog. Temps had warmed into the mid 70s by early afternoon. Little to no wind. Lots of turkeys between Fair Oaks and the finish. Also plenty of deer.
