A bit of unusual weather today. It was cloudy, slightly windy and chilly. When I checked my cell phone, it said that it was about 45 degrees. So, I opted not to wear my cycling jacket, but an extra base layer. All together, I wore arms, knees, 2 base layers (one being a long sleeve jersey). So, I had double arms. I felt comfortable on the out going ride. The winds ended up going to the south, but was going a bit to the north on the first leg, to the top of the descent. I reached the bottom in good average time, around 26 minutes or so. On the way back, I started to overheat a bit, so I stopped, took my arm warmers off and my face mask (which I was wearing around my neck). I unzipped my inner long sleeve jersey and oppened my primary jersey half way. Even then, there were many sections of the ascent where I was getting a bit over heated. I ended up doing moderate tempo for the entire ride. No digs. My legs felt a bit heavy going out the door and felt a bit above average for the remainder of the ride (the descent summit onward). I was able to stay concentrated for the most part, but it was a bit of a battle in my mind during some sections of the ascent. Either way, I was able to reel in the crazies and keep my mind on the job at hand. My knees were sore on a few occasions. I think it occurred twice, once on the way out and the other time as I was about to reach the summit. It was real mild soreness, so no need for concern. Balance was pretty good, I felt well centered on the bike, in and out of the saddle. Gear is working well, although, I forgot to format the sd card, and as a consequence, it ran out of space. I missed out on the return descent to the door. Other notes, I saw 8 or nine riders in total today. 2 tandems, 3 or 4 individuals in a loose group. And 2 other guys descending as I was climbing. I wasn't expecting that, especially given the odd weather.
