Today was a bit cool, but the wind was relatively mild and from the north. I wore 1 base layer, arms and knees. I should have brought a cap for the first 1/3 of the ride, but it wasn't too bad once I reached the summit of banducci. My ears were hurting a bit in the meantime. My legs felt pretty good out the door. I was sufficiently warmed up by the time I reached the end of OTR. I did moderate tempo up the Banducci wall, with a slight increase in pace over the top, but not exactly a dig. I continued with moderate tempo for the remainder of the Banducci climb. I think I lifted the pace a bit. I did good time when I reached SS. I made a dig over the top and reached the tunnel in under an hour. The return trip was done in good tempo, but not exactly high as the winds weren't that strong and a bit of a cross. I made it to boss hogs in under 1:20hrs, so I knew I was doing good time. I continued with good tempo up the CVR climb with a dig over the top. I did another dig over the top where the road intersects with route 202. There was a car behind, so I was compelled to get to the top asap. The remainder of the ride was moderate tempo. The winds were somewhat turbulent, so I couldn't do high tempo down OTR. Noticing the time, I did good tempo once I got to mariposa, on to country club. I knew I was in for a sub 1:50hr ride, so I put in a bit of an extra effort to make it happen. And it did... In terms of ailments, today was almost perfect. No soreness in the knees, lower back, hands. Just the burn that comes with high tempo. Concentration was good, I wigged out a few times, but I reeled it in and kept most of the ride in the zone. Balance was also good. I found that, on this ride, keeping my eye on the horizon helped. The gear is working well. I brought my double batteries for the gopro. Other notes, I keep losing my paper towels from my rear pocket. Not sure why that's the case. Most of the time, after use, I shove it inside. This is about the 3rd or 4th time. Must be the weight (or lack there of).
