Another great day to get out. I was reluctant to get out of bed. I hit the snooze button a few times. Eventually, I got up and suited up for the ride. I wore the standard summer kit with a thick base layer. The legs felt pretty good to start. I stopped at the mail locker to stash my extra provisions. I headed to the Alpine Forest first. I made it to the end of OTR in good average time. I stopped to check the Komoot app for navigation. It's working like a charm. There was less traffic at this time then on the weekend. The Banducci climb has minimal traffic mitigation. So, I was able to better focus on the task at hand. I felt better when I reached the Arosa climb. I was able to find my climbing legs. The time went quick. I was near max over the top, but I didn't red-line it. I was saving my matches for later. From there, I made my way around the backside. I reached 40 MPH on the downhill. I headed to the top of Banducci. When I got there, I checked the Komoot app and the GoPro camera. I also hydrated. I made it there in good time. After letting traffic by, I headed down the mountain. The morale felt good, because I would have a lot of downhill from here till I make my way back from Keene. The descent off the Banducci Wall had some turbulent wind conditions, and some traffic from behind. A bad combination. Nonetheless, I made it to the base intact. The descent off OTR was mostly recovery. I pushed over Mariposa gently and headed back to the mail lockers. I filled my sport drink with extra water and put another bottle of water in my saddle bag. I decided not to bring an extra bag of powder drink or Clif Bar. I had enough to get me back home. From there, I headed to the top of WTR and then commenced the descent. I cruised the downhill and put in two digs over the risers. I stopped once to bio and made my way to the base. After reaching the base, I headed back no waiting. As planned, I stopped at the Chavez Center to feed and fill bottles. It took about 3 to 5 minutes. After that, I headed back up the mountain, nonstop. The miles went quick. There was a train on its way back. It was blaring its horn as it passed me. I couldn't hear a thing, it was that loud! The legs were responding well, and that helped the morale. I was getting my second wind on the way up. Thanks to feeding and staying on top of the sport drink. After reaching the last dip, I was able to relax a bit. I kept my tempo steady. No harsh accelerations. I was doing in and out of the saddle efforts to keep the legs as fresh as possible. Also, to relieve hand soreness. I was doing the numbers and was off by about a minute as I crested the summit. After making it to the summit, I took a few moments to recover and stretch on the bike. There was a tailing on the way back, so it was fun and games. I stopped at the mail lockers to get my stash and headed back home. I shut it down at the top of Weston.
Concentration was good. Minimal lapses and no gremlins. Balance and form was good. In and out of the saddle felt good. Ailments were minimal. Mostly hand soreness and numbness while climbing and grinding. The inner quads were hinting on soreness but never escalated. Nutrition was good. I had plenty for this ride. I fed a Clif Bar and two full bottles of sport drink and water. Gear worked flawlessly. Although the blue GoPro battery died with 14% remaining. Other notes, no other cyclists to be seen. Just one walker on my way out from the mail locker.
