A few days ago I was having a reaction to a vaccine I had earlier in the month. I took it easy and decided for my next ride to do it indoors and avoid the cold weather. I chose the London map because I wanted to do a course that I could do a negative split. I was slow to get my gear set up and I was fiddling with things to get it right. So, it detracted a few minutes during the first lap. After making it to the climb for the first time, I was dialed in. The body felt good. I kept the tempo moderate while doing in and out of the saddle efforts. I was doing less than 3 W/kg for the majority of the climb. I reached the summit in about 11:30-ish minutes. From there, I recovered a bit and headed back down for the next loop. I put in a good dig on the tunnel riser. The second lap started quicker. I was warmed up and didn't have to fiddle with things. I had my Halo replay going, so I was able to get an idea how I was doing on time. The second climb went quicker, as planned. I was doing mostly 3+ W/kg while out of the saddle. I sat down to let the hands recover and to hydrate. I was on good time. I was sweating at this point, so properly warmed up. I was trying to pay attention to the scenery as to detract from looking at the numbers (making time go slower). It worked. I reached the summit in just over 10 minutes. I placed higher in the rankings, too. From there, the morale felt good because the tough part was done and all I had to do was get to the finish. I noticed that I was about to post a sub 30 minute loop, but it wasn't to be. I was about 10 seconds too slow. Nevertheless, I got in the workout that I wanted. After crossing the finish, I commenced the cool-down phase that lasted about 5 or so minutes.
Concentration was good. I was a bit impatient to start, but after reaching the climb for the first time, I was doing better. And I was less distracted by getting my gear set up the way I wanted. Balance and form felt good. Ailments, some hand numbness, that didn't escalate too much. Nutrition was good. I drank most of my sport drink, no water. Gear worked flawlessly once I got everything the way I wanted. I bought a USB extension cable for the Ant+ dongle, it worked like a charm. Other notes, I think there were about 700 riders on the London loop when I hopped on and 12,000 riders altogether across all maps.
