Today was a great day to get out. The weather was nice and cool, in the 60's and the wind from the north. My legs felt pretty good going out the door. It's always tough to gauge them when going into a headwind. It's easy to get fatigued without the sensation of going fast. I was able to do descent tempo to the end of OTR, and more of the same all the up to the summit of Banducci. I made it to the summit in average time, around 36ish minutes. After making my way down to the valley and up the SS summit, my legs began to feel a bit more fatigued than usual. I made it to the tunnel in about 1 hour, and out SS in about 1:05ish hours. As I was making my way back from SS, I noticed that I was feeling a bit light-headed and my legs continued to feel more fatigued than usual. It never occurred to me until I was half way to Pelliser that I was getting the symptoms of bonking. Fortunately, I had my bail-out bar. As soon as I made the turn onto Pelliser I ate the entire bar. I took on as much gatorade as well. After about 10 or 15 minutes, my body started to come around and I was able to commence with moderate to good tempo. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:20 hours. I think I lost 3 to 5 minutes due to gauging my energy level before the ride. I got up early today, around 8:30 am, and had breakfast. I departed for the ride at around 1pm. So, that's a lot of time spent, not having eaten. Looking back, I'm lucky it didn't get worse than it did. Concentration... was good. despite the excess fatigue, I was still alert and able to stay in the zone. Balance needed some work. My balance is the first thing to go when fatigue starts to set in. The bike is working great, no problems there. Other notes, the butterflies were out in force today, crossing my path. Also, the construction in the farm-lands appears to be coming along well. Curious to see what it will end up to be.
