The weather is cold and it was raining yesterday. When I got up from my morning nap after breakfast, the sky was clearing up. I decided to do the planned ride. The temperature was between 45 and 50 degrees. The wind was from the North West, the way I like it for this ride. The roads were damp in many places, but no run off water. I wore the standard winter kit. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. I was near max going over the top. More of the same to the summit. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to recover, hydrate a bit and let traffic by. I made it there in about 40 minutes. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. It was safe, with no traffic from behind. As usual, the trek through the farmlands was a chore. I kept the tempo steady. There was a patch of fog that I had to get through, so I was on high alert. I had my lights going. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:03 hours. So, not too shabby. The last climb was mostly a steady effort. I kept the tempo moderate. After cresting the summit, I was feeling better in the morale. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation from behind, so I had to make a right turn, followed by a U-turn to get to OTR. The descent off OTR was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and shut it down after the dig to the top of Weston.
Concentration was good, perhaps impatient at times, though. I had some things to think about, some good and some not so good. But, the morale was on the positive side. Ailments were minimal. I was feeling a bit queasy to start, but it got slightly better as the ride progressed. I had slight GI bloating or similar sensations. I ended up switching to water hydration around the time I reached the last climb. That helped a bit. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. But, as mentioned, some mild GI discomfort on the last approximate half of the ride. I drank about half my sport drink and some water. Balance and form was good. I moved my saddle forward a bit, I like it better. I think I need to confirm before moving it any further. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, no cyclists today.
