Today was a great day to get out! The weather is on the cold side, but nothing layers can’t protect. I wore the standard winter kit with knee warmers. The wind was favorable, from the North West and not too turbulent. The legs felt good to start. I adjust the tilt of the saddle up just a fraction and I like it. I made it to the summit of OTR in good time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. For some reason, the smartwatch HR monitor didn’t start. I probably forgot. I noticed it at around this time of the ride. It felt too dangerous to fumble with it, so I waited till I reached the summit. The remainder of the climb to the summit was more of the same, with traffic mitigation. I didn’t bother checking the time to the summit, but if I had to guess, it was probably no less than good average time. When I made it there, I pulled over to recover for a bit. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. I took it easy, favoring the safe side. After reaching the base, the wind was in my face, which is how I like it. The trek through the farmlands went quick. I had a tailwind most of the way. I made it to Boss Hogs in under an hour, so I was doing good time. The last climb went quickly. The legs and body responded well. I was doing in and out of the saddle efforts to keep the momentum going and allowing the muscles to recover. I pushed over the top and decided to stop to feed. That took a few minutes. After that, I headed back home. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation but was mostly safe. The descent off OTR was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and shut it down at the top of Weston.
Concentration was good. The morale was good going into the ride. My body felt good, so that reflected on the morale. I had minimal lapses and no gremlins to speak of. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. The knees felt good. Perhaps a bit of hand soreness or numbness here and there while doing out of the saddle efforts. Nutrition was good. I decided to feed at the top of the last climb. I drank most of my sport drink and some water. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, people seemed to be friendly today, no cyclists, but I saw some runners on the farmlands.
