It is cold, but the wind is going the right way. Perfect for a Keene n Back ride. I wore the standard winter kit with my helmet cover. It held me over, and I was perfectly comfortable. I didn't bother checking the time to the summit of the descent, but likely in good average time. While I was making my way there, the GPS wasn't picking up the power meter. After fiddling around with it, I got it to work. My eyes were off the road, so it was a bit dangerous. Suffice it to say, I made it safely. The descent to Keene was mostly cruising. I put in two digs on the risers. After making it to the base, I headed back without hesitation. I kept all of my clothing on. I was a bit impatient to start, so I was coaching myself while progressing. The morale felt better as the landmarks went by. I was feeling much better after the first dip, and even better after the second. I was doing in and out of the saddle efforts, doing my best to keep the tempo going. I was doing the numbers on one or two occasions. It helped distract me from the suffering. I kept my momentum going over the top. After making it to the summit, I took a few moments to recover and then headed back home. I shut it down at the top of Weston.
Concentration was good. I was a bit impatient at times, but mostly in the zone. I was able to push myself when the tough got going. Balance and form was good. I like the saddle position and will keep it there for the next few rides to confirm. Ailments were the usual. Hand numbness while grinding out of the saddle. Otherwise, the body felt good. Nutrition was good. I fed a banana, some grapes and apple sauce before the start of the ride. That held me over. Gear worked flawlessly, other than the power meter taking a few moments to pair with the GPS. Other notes, no cyclists today. There were some "obscured" cars as I was descending and ascending Keene.
