I had a Dr. appointment in the morning. It took longer than expected. After I finished with that, I headed to Walmart. When I got back, I grabbed some snacks. A banana, apple sauce, grapes, and Clif Bar. I misjudged a few things. I should have brought my jacket. I thought the weather was warm enough, but as soon as I made it to the end of the block, I realized I was under dressed. Otherwise, I wore arms, knees, thick base layer, a newspaper in the jersey (that saved the day), and head cap. The wind was from the North West. I made it to the summit of the descent in good average time. I cruised the downhill. I wasn't too hasty. I was getting cold, a bit more than I would have liked. I kept reminding myself that I would be warmer when I am on my way back up the mountain. I put in two digs on the risers. As it turns out, I didn't give up much time to the base. After making it there, I headed back without hesitation. I was cold for the first few minutes, but the warmth returned shortly after. I concentrated on the landmarks. They went by sufficiently quick. I felt better in the morale after the first dip, and certainly better on the second dip. The legs felt good. The only thing that didn't help was the GI. I was a bit sour in the stomach. I mitigated the problem by drinking water instead of the sport drink. That seemed to help. The legs felt good and I was able to hold a good tempo for the duration of the climb. I kept the power down going over the top. From there, I took a few moments to relax on the way back home. I had a generous tailwind, so the return was quick. I shut it down at the top of Weston.
Concentration was good, all things considered. I had to battle the elements and the sour GI. I held it together. Balance and form was good. I like the forward adjusted saddle position. I will decide if I need to move it forward more, pending on the next few rides. Ailments were, the cold body on the downhill, mild right hand numbness while digging out of the saddle, and the GI sour issue. I got by all of them. Nutrition was good, but I fed too much before the ride. I should have and half a banana and not a whole one. Gear worked flawlessly.
Other notes, I saw one cyclist on his way back as I was making my way down to Keene.
