A while ago, I noticed a trail along the Agua Fria River underpass of the I-10, so this was my exploration. I drove down to the start and parked in this warehouse lot and rode the red bike over to the area. It had flat pedals and I had a helmet and regular clothes.
The trail had a sign of "Levee Trail" and was new! Rode north the the freeway underpass. As I approached, I saw a homeless camp of which the size indicated more than 1-2 people. I was a bit hessitant to approach since it the camp was on the east side and some other stuff on west side of the trail. I noticed a female standing. Then a pit-bull came barking at me. No teeth, yet unrestrained and with a collar and leash flopping. I quickly dismounted and used the red bike ( nice and light since no packs) front tire as a stick to keep the dog at bay. Then a man was shouting at the dog and running toward me to grad the dog, apologizing for him.
Well that was a bit of excitement I had not counted on! The man said there was a gate just up from the underpass and that the trail stopped there. I thought about just turning around, but wanted to see the end. I told the man I would continue on.
At the north end there was a chain link gate but it was unlocked. So I proceeded past the gate about 10 yards and the trail ended. I did not see a way to cross N into Friendship Park since banks were steep and a stream was flowing. To the E was a gravel path as far as I could see but I did not know for how long and what was beyond. So opted to return whence I came.
This time, I saw the data was in full muzzle and he stay put in the camp.
Then rode in the underpass of Van Buren and all the way south to train tracks where the phot shows the sidewalk ends! Ugh.
It was also disappointing to notice that all the entrances into the trail between Van Buren and the tracks, were all bricked-shut. There was only the opening at the north and the south ( which in a past attempt of my exploring, were closed and locked, some number of years ago, but now those metal gates are both gone).
So back to the car.
