Today's weather was comfortably warm. Winds from the North West. Today was the first time I tried the new Lazer Genesis Lifebeam helmet. But, first the ride... It went well. Didn't take much time to get warmed up. Sufficient by the end of OTR, in good average time. As I was riding, I was monitoring the accuracy of the HR monitor. It became apparent, after about the first 30 minutes of riding that it was defective in some way. It would pair fine, but the reading didn't show up, till after a minute or two, then it would stop. I had to continuously turn it on and pair. After about an hour of fiddling with it, I gave up and realized that I got a used lemon. So, then I concentrated on the ride. Banducci went well. I was up and over in good average time. I cruised my way to SS, doing 16-17MPH, into the wind. I reached the tunnel in about 1:02 hours. I made my way through SS, and then headed back. I was doing 18+MPH most of the way through the farmlands. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:23-ish hours. The last climb felt good. Not putting it into the red zone, doing good tempo. At this point, I was down to my last few gulps of Cytomax. I calculated I would have just enough with two bottles, before the ride started. I was correct in my estimate. From here, it was mostly fun and games. Concentration was very good. Balance and form felt good. Ailments, right hand numbness. Gear, everything, except the helmet worked perfect. The GoPro ran out of batteries at about 1:50 hrs into the ride. Other notes, the helmet left a mark on my forehead, in the same shape of the sensor. Leaving my wondering what to do next? Try another helmet, of the same make/model? Or try another one without the sensor?
