Today was interesting. I had to go get my eyes checked at 8am. So, I got up early. I got back by 9am and then had breakfast. Took a quick nap, then got my gear on and headed out. At that time, the wind was from the south. The temperature was comfortably warm. I flew up WTR, making it to the summit in about 7 minutes. Very fast indeed. So, I made my way down the mountain. The wind, then, changed directions from South to North. This happened about 1/2 mile into the descent. There was traffic behind, so I was pushing it a bit more than normal. I made it to the base and noticed that I was going to have a nice tailwind on the way back. I started moderate, and let the climbing legs get into the zone. I was able to hold good tempo for most of the climb. I was red-lining it on more than a few occasions. The legs felt real good and I wasn't exhibiting ailments. So, I decided to push it a bit, as I was on good time. I was maxed out by the time I reached the bridge, but I was able to hold it till I reached the summit. I told myself to concentrate without the metrics. I didn't want to see the time I was putting down till I reached the summit. When I reached the summit, I looked down at the GPS, it showed 59 minutes and change! Shocking. No doubt, due to the changing wind conditions, but nevertheless a PR for at least the past 5 to 6 months. Concentration was spot on. A few hints of gremlins as I was nearing the summit, but I was able to hold it together. Balance and form was spot on. Ailments, right hand numbness. The usual sensation of exhaustion. Other notes, no other cyclists today. The GoPro stopped recording with an "SD Card Error" message displayed. Perhaps it's the card, and not the camera?
