Yet another scorching day today. In the 90's. I wasn't sure how my body was going to respond today. Turns out that it did well. Exhausted in the end, but to be expected with this type of weather. I think I used 2x the energy required compared to cooler days. I was very calculated during the entire ride, including the descent. I soft pedaled the entire downhill, only making efforts where the road kicks up a bit. The return trip went well. My legs felt pretty good. But I was constantly battling the heat. It was really brutal in some sections. The only dig that I made was going over the loop monument. Other than that, it was cruise control. The moment I felt heat exhaustion creeping in, I lowered the tempo. I did moderate tempo for most of the ride, and getting out of the saddle to keep my momentum going and allowing circulation through out the body. I didn't have many ailments, my back felt great, no leg cramping. My right hand was numb on a few occasions. My concentration was spot on. I was constantly reading my body's signals and adjusting my tempo and bike position to make sure I was on top of everything. Balance was also good, not too much conscious effort to keep that in check. Gear... I was surprised to see that the bike was creaking today. I added some lube on the pedals last night. It definitely sounds like it's emanating from the pedals. Perhaps the cleats also need to be tightened. My Gopro was acting odd today. It froze after reaching the base of Keene. I couldn't figure it out. When I got to the top, I tried taking the batteries out to reset it, but it immediately froze upon trying to start video footage. The batteries were fully charged when I left, and the SD card was formatted. Will have to keep an eye on it and perhaps take a look at Gopro's out of warranty repair options. Other than that, everything else worked flawless. The wheels feel great.
