Another fantastic day. I got up at the right time. I had breakfast, got suited up and headed out. It was in the low 70’s with cool winds from the North West. I wore the standard summer kit. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. I was near max going over the top. I recovered on the flats and then finished the climb. I made it to the summit in good average time. After recovering for a few moments, I headed down the mountain. It was safe. I feathered the brakes to keep things in control. The trek through the farmlands was enjoyable. There was a mild headwind, but it was still on the cool side. After reaching the front entrance, I took a few moments to stretch on the bike. I then made my way around the backside and then to the rear entrance of SS. I took a few moments to recover and then headed down and towards town. I put in a good sprint on the downhill. I stopped at the local park to bio. I made it to the tunnel in around 1:03 hours. So, I was doing pretty good time. I made my way to the local mini-mart. I stopped there to mix a sport drink with the extra bottle of water that I was carrying. I got back on the road and headed home. The trek through the farmlands went quick. I was using the entire road to avoid the pot holes and bumps. I made it to Boss Hogs in around 1:06 minutes, plus or minus. So, I only gave up a few minutes on the return. The last climb went quick. I was doing no less than moderate tempo. I tried to keep my momentum going by doing in and out of the saddle efforts. After cresting the summit, I pulled over to feed a Clif Bar. After that, I made my way to Route 202. Route 202 had a bit of traffic mitigation. I had to sprint to the intersection of OTR. It was safe. Descending off OTR was fun. I was able to relax and enjoy the cool air rushing through my body. I pushed over Mariposa and then made my way to Weston where I did the dig to the top. I shut it down when I got there.
Concentration was good. My patience was in check. I had few things to think about. The music and GPS announcements kept me occupied upstairs. I was in the zone most of the time. No gremlins worth mentioning. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Just the usual hand soreness and numbness while digging out of the saddle. Nutrition was good. I fed a Clif Bar, one and a half bottles of sport drink and some water. I had oatmeal and half a banana before departing. Gear worked flawlessly. There’s still a mystery click I am trying to track down. Otherwise, mechanically, everything worked beautifully. Other notes, I saw two cyclists and some friendly motor-cyclists.
