The weather has cooled off. I think I got out at the right time. I had enough to get the extra sleep in. It was under 70 degrees. Cool winds from the North West. Sunny skies. I wore the standard summer kit. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had a lot of traffic mitigation. I was constantly looking around while getting my ride in. I was able to recover on the flat section. The remainder of the climb was mostly moderate tempo with in and out of the saddle efforts. The traffic mitigation was the same. I was looking all around and using the shoulder to let traffic by. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. Once there, I took a few moments to recover. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. It was safe with no traffic from behind. I played it cautious by feathering the brakes and giving distance for the oncoming traffic. The trek to SS was relaxing. I settled into a nice tempo. After reaching the front entrance I took a few moments to stretch. Then I made my way around the backside. I put in a good sprint on the downhill. I stopped at the local park to take a quick bio and then headed to the mini mart. I made it passed the tunnel in about 1:05 hours. about a minute down the road, I noticed my GPS stopped. So, I had to press the start/stop button to get it going again. So I lost about a quarter mile of metrics. I stopped at the local mini mart and mixed a powder drink with the extra water bottle I had in my saddle. I got back on the road and headed home. The trek through the farmlands went quick. I kept in my mind that I would feed a tasty Clif Bar at the top of the last climb. I passed Boss Hogs in about 1:28 hours or so. That meant I gave up around 3 to 4 minutes on the return. The last climb went quick. The climbing legs were there. I was doing in and out of the saddle efforts to keep the momentum going. I kept the power down as I crested the summit. Then I pulled over to feed a Clif Bar. After feeding, I swapped the GoPro battery and headed to Route 202. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation. I stopped once to the side of the road to let traffic by and then hopped back on. I pushed it till I reached OTR. The descent off OTR was a joy. Nice cool air with a downhill. I pushed over Mariposa and then to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. Perhaps a bit of impatience here and there, but I was focused most of the time. The morale was good. Ailments were minimal. Some minor hand soreness. A hint of right knee soreness in the first quarter or so. It went away after a while. Balance and form was good. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal and some grapes for breakfast. Gear worked flawlessly. I serviced the left crank arm yesterday by removing it, greasing the parts and then reassembling it. I didn't hear creaking noises while out of the saddle. There's still some clicking while in the saddle. I've since purchased some recommended lube and will apply it to the saddle rails to see if that helps . Other notes, I saw once cyclist and some walkers today.
Other notes, the sprint I put in at SS felt real good. Probably the best yet. The power was there and so was the concentration. I reached 41 MPH On the downhill.
