The number of gravel roads in this county can be counted on one hand and this route hits them and includes the C&O towpath as "gravel" too. Put the fatty wheels/tires on the WTF and did a crazy little loop between the gravel roads and the tow path with some pavement work thrown in so there was at least SOME climbing and mileage. All said and done, there was about 25 miles of no pavement and nothing was repeated, other than going both ways on one of the roads, which we'll not count as a repeat since different directions. Felt pretty good even after yesterday's MTB ride, which suggests either the OG is in better condition OR the ride yesterday wasn't all that stressful. We'll go with door No. 1 on this issue. Main thing that needed the work is the contact points and they were actually pretty good. The legs finally complained around mile 30, which seems about right. But they continued to work, albeit complaining about it. Pleased with the climbing at 15 -- was not gassed at the top and was able to maintain a steady, if slow, pace the whole 2.5 miles. Also pleased with this loop routing, especially the part down Mt. Nebo -- not much traffic and plenty rolling for interest, then the dirt Sycamore Landing road appears before the road turns back into River Road speedway. It also breaks up the monotony of the green tunnel towpath riding into different parts of the ride.
