Weeee! Down the killer hiller from Alta Lake SP to the Methow Valley Rd. Opted to skip more wonderful pastries at the bakery cafe where I recuperated yesterday for a possible treat at Cinnamon Twisp down the road. Light traffic. Pleasant AM ride along the Methow R. At Carleton, I took the Carleton-Twisp back road on the west side of the river. REALLY nice. Came across occupied orchard worker housing along the road and wondered what their lives (and now livelihood) might be like. I didn't see anyone in the orchards though each tiny house had a car parked there.
NO highway traffic at all early on. I diverted onto the Carleton-Twisp road which had no traffic at all and was beautiful. Came to a a small farm stand and got some super tasty tomatoes and a cuke. Plus a recommendation for an "Asian food truck" alternative to Cinnamon Twisp. Good call, that. It was a Sri Lankan curry cuisine and DEEE-LICIOUS! I blew off Twin Lakes Resort (too "resorty") for Pearrigan Lake SP a few mile on, taking the Eastside Methow-Twisp road to Methow... another nice alternative to busier Hwy 20 which comes into the Methow Valley Rd short of Twisp. At the Pearrigan gate they had a few things to buy at the entrance bldg including an ice cream freezer. So I got a Haagen Dasz bar AND found a sticker that says "LOST on purpose" which I attached to the head tube just above the Salsa badge. PERFECT! Over the next day or two, I pondered this phrase as a name for my "new" bike and decided on the acronym L-O-P but LOP (with a short "O") didn't sound right. Then I thought, Lopey, with a long "O" like 'antelope' which sounded closer. Finally I thought "LOPEZ! i.e. Lost on purpose, easy!" Not only that, but I thought of the Vashon middle school teacher, Cornelius Lopez, who has introduced generations of Vashon middle schoolers to bike touring during "Exploratory Weeks" over the years. DOUBLY PERFECT!! I still refer to her as "Lopey" quite a bit. :-)
