All went smoothly with a 19 mph average from home to the coast! Then a head wind picked up heading southbound along with the rolling hills heading that way so average began to drop but I figured I could make it up on the return. Dana Point was dreamy as always 💗 The glitch in the ride showed up about 122 miles into the ride just as I came off the last wooden bridge and approached Yorba Regional Park on the bike trail. Suddenly I heard 3 hisses simultaneously and looked down to see the rear tire spraying white latex - tubeless tire sealant I just installed yesterday! Apparently a patch of broken glass on their trail. The worst one is about a quarter inch long and kept coming back open every few revolutions or after a while every 100 yds of so to spray more latex all over my seat tube, seat post and seat bottom. Instead of trying tog to plug several different holes I opted to see if I could have ride it the last 27 miles before it was completely flat. It had about 5-10 psi in it by the time Ie I got home! I’ll check it out tomorrow. Pretty sure it’s time for a new set of tires and to find the rest of the pieces I needs to build a set of old fashion “tire savers” that flick off anything that begins to stick in the tire rubber on its first half revolution before it penetrates the casing. Good old American capitalism - they’d rather sell you new tires, tubes, sealant, patches, and get you in to see if they can sell you more stuff instead of eliminating a problem that doesn’t need to exist! Anyways, another 140 miler in the books.
