What beautiful weather it was today! Great day to go to SS. I wore a bit more than I should have, but turned out to be ok. I wore arms, knees, thick base layer, and head cap. It was in the low 60's, winds from the North West, but turned turbulent. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. I stopped at the top to remove my head cap. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation, but not too much. I was near max going over the top while using my small gears. The remainder of the climb went reasonably quick. There was some traffic mitigation, so I was staying to the right as best I could. After cresting the summit, I took a few moments to catch my breath. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. It was safe. No traffic from behind. The trek to SS was steady tempo. I think it was at this point when the wind started to turn Westward, but slightly. It felt like I was going slightly faster than usual. I made my way around the back side. I stopped at the top to remove my knee warmers. From there, I got back on the road. I put in a good sprint on the downhill. It was slower than usual because of the slight headwind. I stopped at the local park to bio. I passed the SS tunnel in about 1:02 hours. I made my way to the local mini-mart to stop and mix a powder drink. I got back on the road and made my way back on the farmlands. I kept the tempo steady. I reached Boss Hogs in about 1:28-ish hours. So, I gave up 6 minutes on the return. Attribute it to the slight change in wind direction. The last climb went as usual. No heroics. I kept the tempo going while doing in and out of the saddle efforts. I pushed over the top. I stopped at the summit to feed a Clif Bar. Then, I got back on the road and made my way to Route 202. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation, so I was hugging the left side shoulder. I ended up making a right turn instead of left, because there was too much traffic making it difficult to merge. The descent off OTR was fun and games. I was able to relax and enjoy it a bit. I pushed over Mariposa. I stopped once to swap out the GoPro battery. I pushed over Weston and shut it down.
Concentration was good. My patience was in check. I had stuff to think about and it helped, so did the music and announcements. Ailments were minimal. Just the usual hand soreness. Balance and form felt good. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal, 1/3rd of a banana, and some grapes for breakfast. I had a Clif Bar with water and I drank two bottles of sport drink. Gear worked flawlessly. There were no mystery clicks of any sort. I think the power meter was reading a bit low today by about 10 to 15 watts. Other notes, no cyclists out there that I can remember. It is daylight savings, so I gained an our today.
