There appeared to be lots of coffee shops in
town but somewhere closed, some just weren't there and I guess some misplaced on google maps. So after walkibg town for 20minutes I thought just go to a supermarket and there it was - coffee shop next door to the supermarket - 50 yards from my hotel !
So it was 9:30 when I set off on the longest planned day at a mere 70 miles.
I passed a Korean guy as I headed out out town and he gave me a shock when I looked back 3 mikes later to find him tailgating me ... The cheek ! He stayed in my slipstream till he turned off after 6miles.
The Nakdongang river valley became flatter and wider as I headed south, there was less to see as the river was away from the path and the hills still lined the river, but they were smaller and further away. I pressed on and blasted out the first 20miles till the path took a 3 mile turn inland to cross the river Miryangang which joins the Nakdongang here.
There were three bridges crossing the river, one a huge box bridge for trains. The path went around a tight rocky road and I stopped in the little town for coffee and a snack.
The river now turned south and I was on the east side all the way to Busan, with 20 miles to go the city started, the valley was quite tight so the usual blocks of high and thin apartment blocks.
Next the highways started, a huge 8 lane motirway appeared between me an the river and I was cycling in quite crowded park areas which stood between the motorway and the apartments - it was a decent outside space in a densely urbanised area.
The apartments gradually turned into Industrial areas and the motorway had multiple spurs heading down to the huge port complex. The cylepath started crossing these turn offs the motorway and some were really badly designed, a less experienced cyclist could easily get into trouble. One sharp turn dropped down a short steep bank straight onto a slip road crossing !
I entually reached the end of the cycleway nut couldnt find anything marking it at the Nakdongnam-ro bridge. It was 4pm and I now had a difficult 9 miles across town to my hotel near the Ferry Port. The cycle network here became almost non existent. A mix of difficult paths, sometimes on the 6 lane highway and frequent 5minute waits at traffic lights slowed me massively. I cycled uo a one way street the wrong way ... on purpose and with a mile to go I found mysekf cycling through the Fish Market, then around the corner thecstalls had set up benchrs and tables and were cooking fresh seafood !
I reached my hotel at 6pm ... 2hrs to do 9 miles !
And tgats it South Korea Done !
