Where yesterday was wet, today was windy. Gale force warnings in operation until 6pm. Although the rain gad come from tge Soough West, the wind was now from the North East ... and right in my face for most of the day. I hugged the coast for 25 miles along small cosdtal towns much like yesterday. I stopped at a shrine , then another, they look so beautiful with the red Torii gate, steps and shrine. I bowed to each gate, and entered. I worried my pics would become much of a muchness and I wondered could I collect 100 shrines on my trip. After passing another 2 in no time I assumed 100 would be easy to achieve ! Then I was blown away .. The Sugawara shrine https://maps.app.goo.gl/HivfpsgHnAwfmoAM6 The gate was on a tract of sand linking the shore to a  island and the shrine was on the island. What a beautiful setting. 25 miles in I had a break, the road turned east to skirt around the mighty Sakurajima Volcano and I got some respite from the wind. I arrived at my ferry port across to Kagoshima with impeccable timing and as the secured the bike the ferry was off. Its only about 2 miles across the bay and I still didnt get to see the top of the volcano. I did however feel a sensation of burning ash hitting my eyes as I disemarked the ferry. A quick dive into a McDonalds across the road was in order for a coffee and a snack. After a nice pick me up I stepped back outside and it was now raining quite heavily, as I only had 13 miles remaining I set off and both the weather and road were awful. The road was busy but only single with no verge so I was forced to ride through puddles as I hugged the side. To be fair to the drivers they were good and tgere was only one close pass. After an awful 4 miles the risd became dual and I got a wide path so the next 5 miles were good. The volcano across the bay had nit only disappeared into the murk but the bay itself had too ! Back to single eith 4 miles to go and the same problems but I turned off for town after a mile and the rain was actally easing. And obviously once I reached the Hotel it stopped for the night ! Tomorrow the weather looks great, so suncream required and the arms legs may even make an appearance.
