The weather is perfect. Around 70 degrees, cool winds from the North West. I wore the standard summer kit. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the top of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. I was looking at my 6 most of the way up. I had matches to burn going over the top. The remainder of the climb was mostly moderate tempo while keeping an eye out for traffic from behind. I made it to the summit in average time. I think I lost time due to the headwind. The descent was safe. No cars from behind. I made my way through the farmlands doing steady tempo. I made my way around the backside of SS and then into the descent. I put in a good sprint. I stopped at the local park for a quick bio. The bathroom was open today, but the faucet is still leaking from below. Shortly after, I hopped back on my bike. I made it through the tunnel in about 1:06 hours. I stopped at the local mini mart to mix a powder drink. Then I got back on the road and made my way through the farmlands. I had a nice tailwind most of the way. I passed boss hogs in about 1:29 hours, so I gave up just 3 minutes on the return. The last climb went well. I kept no less than moderate tempo. After cresting the summit, I pulled over to feed. I fed a Clif Bar with some water. Shortly after, I got back on the road and made my way to Route 202. There was only a car or two that I had to let by. It was mostly safe. Descending off OTR was fun and games. I had to slow down to a near stop for some run off water that kicked mud into the street. I stopped to say hi to the local horses. From there, I made my way up Mariposa. Just as I was about to make it to WTR, the GoPro batter ran out. So I replaced it and got back on the road. I did the grind to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. The morale felt pretty good to start. My patience was in check, I had minimal lapses and no gremlins worth mentioning. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Just the hand soreness and usual sensation of fatigue. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal, half a banana and some grapes for breakfast. I fed a Clif Bar with water during the ride. Gear worked flawlessly. I have to swap out the battery in the power meter and lube the chain as it was squeaking. No cyclists out there today.
