I waited for the heat to ease up, I went out to ride it was still hot, I started to sweat and I was just getting the bike out! The rear tire was flat again, so I replaced it with another tube. I adjusted the bar angle slightly. Now I just got to get used to this new positioning and adapt. Well once I was out on the road, everything felt good, not great. The cadence felt adequate as well as the speed and HR. It felt fast even though I wasn't going that fast. I did get faster as the ride progressed, I'm not sure if I increased my effort or not. I do know I got lucky when I made a slight change in the route. As I was riding, there were fire works going off the entire first 2/3rds of the ride. I wasn't sure if the skies was all fire works or lightning. When I got 18 miles in I realized it was both, so I headed home as I did not want to be riding in Lightning! The wind picked up big time blowing me from side to side and almost ripping the bars out of my hands. This is why I was lucky to change route. I did pull the plug on taking it easy and started to hammer the last 7.5 miles trying to beat the storm that was coming! I forgot all about the aches and pains and was concentrated on staying upright and getting home. With 3 miles to go, it started to rain and with 2 miles to go the rain got wild a few cars pulled over, emergency vehicles were out, I finally made it to my turn off, to my home! I think this was one of my fastest last 7.5 miles, so I guess I still have some gusto left in my legs! I was so happy knowing I was home and safe completing another great adventure, even though it was 15+ miles short of my intended distance. Be safe out there, enjoy the ride and remember to always smile when you finish!
