Amiens to Neufchâtel The family I stayed with over night In Amiens was very welcoming inviting me to eat both evening meal and breakfast with them. Antoine, Caroline and three year old Valentino, plus grandparents. She and Grand parent were German and he was French. Valentino (3) was at my level of French 😁. Grandparents English was about as good as as my French. Carolines English was good and Antoines fair. A multilingual evening and Valentino spoke all three languages. While eating the heavens opened for 20 mins but my tent stayed dry - its first rain test. Anyway it was another hot day (28C) but not as hot as yesterday (36C max). No WW1 sites and a fair distance to cover. But still interesting, especially traveling from Picardy into Normandy where there was a surprisingly distinct change to the landscape and architecture. One thing I can say is an advantage of riding a bike and visiting all these grave sites and memorials. The frequent stops are welcome. They give you a breather whereas I imagine driving in a car short distances between graveyard take much less time and you’re forever hopping in and out of the car. Car parks are often a fair distance from the sites, whereas you can almost always wheel your bike in (using the disabled ramps). All up I reckon it could either be a bit of a pain with a car, a chore rather than a pleasure - or you visit less sites!
