Today's story was all about the wind! Mostly from the South East with turbulent gusts. I decided to do the full Tour de Teh ride. I knew it was going to be hell on the way back. I wore the standard kit with arms and knees. When I was about to depart, I noticed my smartphone was low on batteries. So, I ended up bringing my battery bank and had it connected on charge to the phone. It worked like a charm. I took it easy going up OTR. It wasn't a day for PR's, so why even try. I made it to the end of OTR in average time. Climbing Banducci was aided with a tail-wind, so it went quicker than normal. After reaching the summit, I took a moment to look around. The wind was strong, so I knew I had to take it easy on the descent. I ended up riding the brakes most of the way down. There was turbulent wind conditions that made it hazardous. After reaching the base, I was able to breath a sigh of relief. I made my way out to SS. The most unusual sensation. I was doing 30 MPH+ on a false flat, the whole way to SS. Definitely averaging more than 30 MPH on that brief leg. I made my way around the backside. As soon as I reached the town of SS, I knew I was in for it. So, I prepared myself mentally. I got to Banducci and headed back. As anticipated, this was going to be a snail's pace, the whole way back. The wind was strong, and continued to be turbulent. I was having to ride my 28 tooth, most of the way into the headwind. Hardly doing 10 MPH. Heading north was just as bad. I was having problems holding the bike up right. I had to un-clip my right foot to gain balance and be prepared to put it down if needed. It was more or less like this for the entire farm-lands trek. After reaching the base of the last climb, I was able to take advantage of the shelter nearing the hill sides. After reaching the summit, I was able to recoup. This leg too 2x more than normal as I was continuing into a massive headwind. Route 202 was no fun. I was having to carefully mitigate traffic conditions. I stopped once to let traffic by and was constantly looking back and using the shoulder to the limit. OTR was mostly fun and games. My GoPro ran out of batteries around this time. I stopped once to check on it. After making it over Mariposa, it was mostly fun and games. Concentration was good, all things considered. I was able to tough out the conditions. Balance and form was good. Ailments, the knees were starting to complain on the last leg through the farm-lands. To be expected. Gear worked great. GoPro, not so much. I should have brought a 3rd battery. My fault. Other notes, I saw one recumbent cyclist today.
