Oh well, another day of rain, only this time it was very light and almost like a mist, and only for about 40 minutes. Some at the start and some in the last 10 miles.
The day before, after my CT-RI perm ride, I drove a couple hours over to the High Point Motel in NJ and stayed the night, in order to be close to the starting area for this NJ ride.
I planned to start at 7am, but when woke up saw real rain! I recalled that rando plan said the rain would stop. So at about 8am I started driving the course to find where the rain had stopped and from there I would start my ride.
Turns out it was about 47 miles around the route, just south of Barryville at the Shohola Township offices parking lot.
During that drive I was glad I had not started my ride around that 8am hour as there was a ton of cars with folks going to school and work. Especially busy was the climb up out of Dingmans Bridge and that road was narrow there.
I also used this driving time to check out if Old Mine Rd was still closed and it was. Then secondly I wanted to see what the south half of Old Mine Rd was like in light of the recent storms. Turns out the roadway just had leaf liter and no downed trees.
There were 2 main climbs, one on the north side and the south end after Dingmans Bridge. The north climb was on very new pavement on 0 cars, so it was nice to climb.
Dingmans climb was a bit different. There was NO shoulder at all for the first 2 miles of the 3.3 mile climb. There was also some traffic, so had to pay attention to climbing and cars.
In general the road surfaces of the route were good. The views of the Delaware River along the north part were amazing, especially up to Hawk's Nest turnout.
Then in that NE section there were road markers about every 1/2 mile telling of some Indian Raid or fort or some old house.
