I got in a good solo ride today. I decided to do a double. I went to WS n Back + Keene n Back. I would have liked to have gotten out earlier. I had breakfast and decided to skip my usual morning nap. I had some chores to take care of that took about 30 minutes off my schedule. Nevertheless, the weather was in the 80's with winds from the North-West. I wore the standard kit. Although most of the ride was done in moderate tempo, there were parts where I put a little more effort into. Such as the last risers on the way back on Highline. I had a lot of recovery time going through OTR and down Keene. My legs felt good from the start, I had no signs of ailments at this point. I stopped at the top of Keene to take a quick break. Come to think of it, that was one of few stops I made, not counting stop signs. I tried to keep turning the pedals over on the descent as to keep the legs warmed up. It was nice to have a tail wind on the way back, but there were places where the sun put a lot of heat into the body. I felt pretty good going up Keene. My body was responding well. I kept a nice steady tempo the whole ascent, with a slight dig going over the loop monument. My concentration was good for the most part. I did have some lapses here and there and had to coach. I did experience some gremlins but fortunately I held it together. As far as food went, I did bring an power bar, but I was able to survive comfortably on 2 bottles of Cytomax and 2 bottles of water. Ailments were minimal today. The most notable was my saddle soreness. I was able to mitigate the situation with guaze patchs and ointment, Vaseline during the ride and Acne ointment off the bike. Other than that, it was the usual sensation of exhaustion as the ride neared the end. Balance was probably the lesser of things on this ride. I just didn't have that sensation of being square on the pedals. Especially going out on Highline. I alternated power from one leg to another and that helped a little. Gear is working great, no problems there. Other notes, I have to buy a base layer to protect from sun exposure. I put the extra 2 bottles into the mail locker inside a plastic container. I added a note for the mail person to leave the mail on top of the container and it worked.
