Not long after getting going I finally decided to put a tube in my rear tire after limping it along for a couple of days. But it had like 4 holes, each with at least one plug, one with 3. If I had had any sealant in there it would have been fine. I didn't have much when I left home but it was all dried up when I popped it open. I'd like to claim that I left that old tire on there for this trip for practice in this sort of situation, but that would make too much sense. I was just lazy. Oh well. It did really well for an hour or 2 but I stopped at a church and noticed it was losing air. Small hole from where the tire was punctured. So I patched that and put a short section of tube that I had in between the tire and tube to help protect it and it held good the rest of the day.
So I was riding along and heard something in the bushes to my right. I looked over expecting a deer and saw a momma bear and her cub running away from me. They were about 200 feet away. I stopped. And when I did the momma briefly looked back at me, stood on her hind legs, peered for a half a second while her cub caught up, then they both disappeared into the woods.
The route I took through the Osceola national forest was all dirt and the roads were in great condition. Well drained, pretty fast, but with a lot of holes.
The route I planned to take NW out of the forest turned out to go through quite a bit of private property. I didn't have the energy to care, so I just hopped gates, 4 of them through 2 properties. These lasted a few miles but I had no issue. Saw lots of bear tracks. Then after I had gotten back to a county road a coyote crossed the road not 100 feet in front of me.
As my intel was quite wrong as to the boundaries of the national forest, and seeing as I didn't want to backtrack, I pushed on, decided I had enough in me to go all the way to Fargo if necessary. But I decided to stop at the Suwanee river underneath a really low traffic county road bridge. Barely any cars at all and no houses around and the river is lovely here.
