Today was another cold one. Not as cold as the previous ride though. About low 40's turbulent wind. I wore a base layer, long sleeve jersey, and jersey on top, arms, legs, skull, face, full gloves. I felt pretty good going out the door. I got out later than I planned. I got warmed up fast. By the time I reached Route 202, I was ready to rock. At this point, the winds were from the south-east. I had a tailwind going up Banducci. I was able to climb the wall fairly easy. The remainder was in moderate to good tempo. I was able to keep my momentum for the entire climb. I was feeling good at this point. I took the usual 1 minute breather at the summit and then began the trek to SS. After reaching the base, I noticed that the wind had shifted directions. It was now from the North-West, as it usually does. This meant I had a headwind on the way out to SS and a tailwind on the way back. I like it this way! I made it to SS in good time. I wasn't keeping track the whole time, but I was somewhere near 1 hour at the tunnel. After exiting SS, I did moderate tempo, keeping an eye on traffic. I upped the tempo on Pelisser. I continued to feel good at this point. I reached Boss Hogs in about 1:20ish. I was doing good time. The wind continued to prevail from the North-West, so I had a tailwind on the final climb. I kept good tempo for most of the climb and out of the saddle, over the top. The false flats was a place for recovery. Once I reached Route 202, I made my way to OTR while negotiating through traffic. Once there, it was mostly fun and games. The temperature had dropped some, but I was still comfortable. Concentration was the lesser today. There were moments where I was just in the twilight zone. On top of that, there were some gremlins just to remind me that I wasn't having a good day in the mind. Nevertheless, I was conscious about keeping my mind reeled in and focused. I ended up coaching myself by changing the subject now and again. Ailments were next to none. I had some minor lower back soreness, but stretching mitigated that issue. Balance and form was good. Still that awkward sensation coming back on Banducci. Gear is working well, probably the greater of things. My HR strap is out of commission. I ended up buying a new one from Nashbar. Other notes, no other cyclists. But I did see 2 runners battling the cold, just like me.
