Today was a big one! Due to the local wild fires, the air quality was horrible! I temperature was warmer than the previous ride, but within my limits. I decided on WS + Tour de Teh (SS,R). The legs felt responsive from the start. I took it easy going up OTR. I made it to the summit in average time. I had to pull over once because my saddle bag zipper broke as I was nearing the summit of OTR. I used some electric tape to keep it sealed. I had no problems after that. I made my way onto Highline. The wind was a bit turbulent, but mostly going towards the East. I did moderate tempo on the way out while paying attention to the legs. After reaching WS, I headed back. Nothing much to say. More of the same moderate tempo. It was more of a mental challenge than physical. After making it over the mile climb, I made my way onto Banducci. I was able to climb the wall while doing no more than 145 BPM. So, I was well within my limits. The remainder of Banducci was just steady tempo. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments rest. I checked the GoPro battery. It was at 100%. So, the battery bank was charging it as it should. After that, I let traffic by and headed downhill. I had to pull over once to let a car past. After that, it was downhill to the base. I reached 40 MPH in my tuck. The trek to SS was pretty quick. I think I had a slight assistance from the wind. I was doing 18 MPH+ in the first mile or so. When I reached the entrance to SS, I took a few moments to stretch while on the bike. The left shin was hinting on soreness, but it never escalated. I made my way around the backside. The descent was fun as usual. I stopped at the local park to use the facility and then got back on the road. I made my way around SS and headed back on the farmlands. I kept the tempo no more than moderate. I was keeping an eye on the legs, monitoring any tenderness that may occur. When I reached the base of the last climb, I pulled over to feed half my cliff bar. I checked the saddle bag and GoPro charge. All was well, so minimum delays. The climb went well. The legs were fatigued, but not significantly heavy. I was feeling the affects of the ride as I was cresting the summit. I pulled over to feed the other half of my Cliff bar. The GoPro showed 90-ish % remaining. I got back on the road, made my way to Route 202 and headed down to OTR. Some traffic mitigation on the way. OTR was mostly fun and games. When I reached Mariposa, I saw that I would be about 1.5 miles short of 45 Miles at the end of the ride. So, I kept going and made my way to White Pine. Then back to Weston. I put in another lap around the block and that put the distance at 45 miles. Concentration was good. I had a few things to think about. The concentration required for a ride like this was very important. I was using most of the techniques I'm used to. Listening to music and guessing where I'd be at the end of the song. Or how many songs to get to a certain point. I was checking out the cars, trying to spot the Petrols Vs the EV's. I had some other things that were lingering in my mind. Suffice it to say, the morale felt good. Gear worked flawless, although, I will need a new saddle bg. Balance and form was good. Nutrition was good. I had about one and a half bottles of Gatorade and some water. I was never low on provisions, nor did I ration. I fed a Cliff bar towards the last 30 minutes of the rid. Other notes, I must have seen 4 to 5 cyclists. And some others off in the distance as I was making my way to WS on Highline. I never caught up to them, though.
