Yet another cold one today. In the upper 30's and winds from the north west. I got out late today. I wore 2 base layers, including a long sleeve jersey, arms, legs, cap, face mask, full gloves, toe warmers. All of which I needed for the duration of the ride. I felt good from the start. It didn't take me much till I was warmed up. About the time I was half way through OTR. The story of the day wasn't so much the weather, but the road conditions. It snowed the other day and they put all sorts of gravel like debris on the road. Suffice it to say, as usual, it got swepped into the bike lane. So, for the majority of the time I was on Highline, I was in the car lane. I was having to check my 6 for approaching cars. I was in and out of the bike and car lane both out and back. There weren't that many cars, so it was relatively safe. It did mostly moderate tempo on the way out. I was focused mostly on avoiding traffic and staying focused. I increased the tempo on the return trip. Mostly good tempo, but some moderate tempo, mostly in the start of the return leg. I felt good, despite the bite of the cold weather. I put landmarks in my mind so that I could concentrate on the ride at hand. I put in a short dig over the summit, mostly to avoid traffic. From that point on, it was mostly fun and games. OTR proved to be a frozen locker of sorts. My hands and feet were beginning to feel the bite of the cold. Fortunately, I made it in time before it got even colder. Concentration was spot on. Between the attention to traffic and the ride, I was able to stay focused. Balance and form was so so. I didn't feel as good as the previous ride. Something about Highline that seems to magnify a lack of balance. Ailments consisted of right knee soreness for about 5 minutes on the Highline outbound trip. Gear is working perferct. Other notes, absolutely no one out today. I saw one pedestrian on the entire ride. I waved to her and she smiled back.
