Another cold one today. Low 40's, winds from the south east. I wore 2 base layers, including a long sleeve jersey, arms, legs, head, face, full gloves. I felt good out the door. I tried to get warmed up in a hurry, by the time I reached OTR, my body warmth was ready. Given that the wind was from the south, I had a tail wind going up Banducci. I did moderate to good tempo to the summit. I had to decide whether to do SS loop. I opted against doing it due to the wind direction and temperature. I chose wisely. After reaching the CV flats, I made the right hand turn onto Pelliser. From that point on, it was either cross or head wind. I was crawling across the farm lands. Doing around 15MPH max into the cross winds, and 10-11 MPH into the headwind. I was feeling a bit light headed by the time I reached the CVR climb. It almost felt like I was about to bonk. I think it was the cold more than a lack of energy. I was constantly hydrating with my Cytomax drink. I didn't feed. When I reached the summit, I put it into cruise control till I reached Route 202. From that point on, it was negotiating through traffic, which was dangerous because I was going into the headwind. I was unable to merge with traffic, like I normally do. Needless to say, I made it safe to OTR. Mostly fun and games from there. My concentration was spot on, in the zone, battling the weather and elements. Ailments consisted mostly of cold exhaustion. Balance and form felt good today, despite the wind conditions. Gear is working well, no problems there. Other notes, I stopped on a few occasions to take some photos. There was a sizable crowd at the top of Banducci. They were playing in the snow, sledding and such. I took some photos and probably got them on video. As I was carefully negotiating the Banducci downhill, there was a deer that appeard in the middle of the road as an oncoming car was approaching. Fortunately, he had enough time to stop and let the deer go.
