The weather is horrible again. Being the air quality is full of smoke from local wild fires. I decided to continue as planned. I decided to head out to the Alpine Forest summit and then to Keene and back. I brought 3 bottles. I stored one in the mail locker. The temperature was on the cool side, but only for about 15 to 20 minutes. As I was about to descend into OTR, the right leg was getting sore, in the inner right quad. I wasn't sure what to make of it, so I just kept going and let up a bit. In about 6 or 7 minutes later, it went away. From that point on, I had no signs of cramping and such. I made it to the end of OTR in good average time. Going up the Banducci wall was a bit of traffic mitigation, but mostly steady tempo using the low gears. More of the same for the Alpine Forest. I had stuff to think about, so the miles started to go faster as the ride went on. I within my limit when I reached Lemans. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to take a few moments rest. The GoPro battery was at 54-ish %. After letting traffic by, I headed back down the mountain, through OTR and to the mail lockers. I refilled on Gatorade and got back on the road. The GoPro was still at 54%, so it was holding its charge. I was fully warmed up, so the legs didn't feel too heavy, but just a bit of exhaustion to be expected. I took it easy on the downhill to the base of Keene. The air quality was getting worse. Likely due to wild fires. After reaching the base, I turned around and headed back without stopping. The first mile was the worst. The climbing legs had to get warmed up again. There was a fire fighter that encouraged me, but in retrospect I think he was warning me about the pending air quality that was going to get worse. The climb went as planned. I kept my mind occupied. Despite the bad air quality, the morale as steady. The body was responding well. I kept a steady tempo, no digs. After making it to the summit, I was able to sit up and relax. I went to the mail locker and grabbed my extra bottle, and headed back home. Concentration was good. Minimal lapses, the morale was good. Balance and form was good. Gear was good. The new cycling shorts will do just fine. Ailments, some hand soreness on extended out of the saddle moments., Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. I made it on a bottle of Gatorade and some water. Other notes, I saw a hand full of cyclists today.
