I counted over 10 trains last night, although half were in the evening before I went to bed, I definitely heard a few in the middle of the night. But I went back to sleep easily each time and got good rest overall. I quietly rode out of the empty park and back into Eaton. I checked out the oldest covered bridge in Ohio, moved from its original location but still spanning the same creek, in a more secure location. It had been vandalized and nearly burned in the eighties. It's one of only 6 surviving two lane covered bridges in the nation.
I took some quiet farm roads, all paved, to get to the Wolf Creek Greenway near Trotwood and followed it all the way in to Dayton. I have never seen so much broken glass on the paths. I rode through a very sad looking neighborhood to get to the Wright brothers restored bike shop and museum. Leaving I had to take a big detour around major bridge work. It was a bit convoluted but at least the city made the effort to sign the detour back to the path. Once I got to downtown, the paths were very nice and I really enjoyed riding so close to the river. There was even a very nice park soon after with nice bathrooms and a water bottle fountain.
I rode to Xenia and got a big lunch at the burger king, and rolled the remaining easy miles through some really lovely forested areas and tiny towns beside the Little Miami River. I ended up finding a good site a little ways up a hill off away from the path in mature forest.
