I chose the Alpine Forest today because the legs felt mostly recovered. My left knee was bothering me a few days after the Caliente ride on Sunday. It's much better now. The weather is great. Winds going North. Good thing this was a quick ride. I made it to the end of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall was a bit of traffic mitigation. I was at 150 BPM over the top, so I wasn't red-lining it much. The Alpine Forest lifted the morale. Getting away from the traffic and focusing on the ride more than anything. I made my way around the backside, reaching over 40 MPH on the dips. When I arrived at the Banducci Summit, I pulled over for a few moments to recoup. I hydrated and scoped out the changes that were made to the turnout. They put some sore of "soft" tarmac on the turnout. It feels mushy, but better than what it was before. It doesn't seem to stick to the tires much. Shortly after, I let traffic by and then headed back. Around that same time, I used my squeegee tool to remove the sticky stuff on the tires. When I reached for my squeegee tool in my jersey pocket, I heard my keys hit the ground. I checked my pocket and sure enough it wasn't there anymore. So, I had to search for it on the ground. It took me about 10 minutes. Eventually, I found it laying on the side, on the dirt. It was somewhat camouflaged. It was one of those "HEY!" moments. So, I picked it up and headed down the mountain. I made it safely to OTR. From there it was mostly fun and games. Concentration was good. I was running on a bit of impatience for the first 15 minutes or so before settling into my tempo. Balance and form felt good. Gear worked perfect. One of the Fidlock bottles is rattling a bit, I'll have check it out later. Ailments, some hand numbness while riding out of the saddle. The knees feel much better. Minimal discomfort there. Nutrition was good. I was riding on a generous bowl of oatmeal in the early morning. Other notes, no other cyclists out there today. (I did see a guy on an e-bike riding up the street as I was making my way back home, down the block).
