The wind was headed North today. So, the opposite of what I prefer. I wore arms and knees and a thick base layer. The temperature turned out to be a bit warmer than I anticipated. I ended up removing my knee warmers when I reached the summit of OTR. The legs felt pretty good. I made it to the summit in good average time. After removing my knee warmers, I headed up Banducci. There was some traffic mitigation, but not too detracting. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments rest. I was hoping the wind turned directions, but no such luck today. I decided to do the complete ride. I made my way down the mountain and through the farmlands with a generous tailwind along the way. I forgot to check the time on the SS tunnel, but I estimated that it was around 58 minutes plus or minus two minutes. After making my way through SS, I headed back on the farmlands. I prepared for the slow return. I was doing between 10 and 13 mph on Banducci. I had a near perfect headwind. I tried to keep my mind distracted from the chore. I reached Boss Hogs in about 1:26-ish hours. So, I gave up between 8 to 10 minutes on the return. The morale felt better as I reached the last climb. It went well. I pulled over just before it began to check the GoPro battery. It was at 15%, so I calculated it was enough for the last climb. I settled into a sustainable tempo all the way to the summit. I kept the power down going over the top. I pulled over at the summit to swap out the GoPro battery. There was some traffic mitigation on Route 202. After reaching OTR, it was mostly fun and games. Concentration was good. Despite the wind going the wrong way, I held it up pretty good. Balance and form was good. I was somewhat leaning into the wind at times, to be expected. Gear worked perfect. Ailments were minimal, some mild hand soreness. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. I had most of my Gatorade, no water. Other notes, no other cyclists or runners today.
