There, that was my big walk from our cabin to the hotel lobby for Wi-Fi!
The lobby is very cozy. The bison 🦬 whose head is above the fireplace produced a full ton of meat; and I put in a bid on this print.
It has been a wonderful day to recharge.
Something is going on with a trailer tire and wheel well rubbing (?), but so far too yucky rainy to go out and unload all the bikes then lay on the ground to check it out.
Tuesday is forecast to be icy here, so glad we are riding out tomorrow morning.
Today as I had time to reflect, some things hit home with gratitude and at some parts, awe.
*How well spread my challenges have been, with days like this to recover physically and emotionally.
*ALL my careful planning and preparation did not prevent the hard surprises.
* The company I’m keeping influenced me to problem solve, not wallow or worry.
*The brutal schedule that we did plan was sprinkled with surprise sightseeing, mineral spring soaks, and opportunities for rest, no matter what it looked/felt like at the time as far as how & why forward progress got stopped. Like the angel that stopped Balaam’s donkey! …Like a good Papa who says, “It’s time to go to bed.”
*I was spared from ever having more than I could handle. Just enough courage, just enough determination, just enough strength and creativity. Right motel at the right place/time, battery capacity stretched**, strategically placed people (police, bike techs, tourists, locals, KS Dept of Transportation, friends!), weather all around me that didn’t touch me or barely touched me… oh my goodness, it’s so much! My heart feels overwhelmed.
[** even conserving, how could I ride 140 miles into fierce headwind over two mountain passes on one spare battery, when it took three to ride 131 on flat terrain?
How could I ride and feel fit at 140 mi while I was still sick, when I was literally falling asleep on my bike the 131 day?
Then to find I had no pickup to rescue me on that desolate ride day, it just made my spine prickle to realize the trouble I could have been in.]
*Feeling disheartened from not getting to tour the monastery with its peaceful garden walk, the one thing I had planned out of the entire two months, because bike trouble stopped me. Then I realized that HEAVEN is mine!! “Don’t you DARE cry!”
*Confused by missing my perfectly planned bus trip to Colorado Springs thru bizarre events, then finding out the shops had long wait periods.
*Encouraging gestures and simple gifts from strangers that were so powerful.
Looking back, even from this unfinished point, it’s like putting together a jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces fall into place for an indescribable whole even though they didn’t make sense at the time.
Is there a word bigger than “grateful” for how I feel about the sovereignty of God?
Awe-struck maybe?
Even though I still struggle to trust and rest, after all He has done, I look to the day when my faith becomes sight. I want that very much.
