It was really cold last night, but today was warm and absolutely gorgeous, and a fun ride!
I rode up to a beaver sunning himself on a rock and just as I was taking the photo he disappeared. He was adorable.
One awful thing today was the dead animals from the road. A doe was laying across the shoulder in the shade, by the time I saw her I just had time to swerve. Then there was another a mile down, and another in about 15 more.
I’ve been reading about the battle at Big Hole this evening, since visiting the site today. I don’t mind justified battles, but the Nez Perce had never hurt a single white person and were leaving the area in a long march, they weren’t harming anyone or damaging anything. They were attacked both here and as they neared Canada. Several in the raiding party said they regretted it as unjustified. I have emotions around that.
I enjoyed the wildlife today, and these huge rocks were within reach. So was Idaho, we basically touched the border as we turned north on 83 toward Missoula.
I took a picture of the street sign because it’s the name of one of my favorite books in the world!
The yellow flowers were so cheery.
Soon we cross Lolo Pass and I was told 100 miles without a potable water source or wi-fi/data. But we are each prepared for that, and Dee, Cliff, & Kathy have ridden it before.
Today was Paul’s first ride and he’s a strong cyclist. He had tire trouble but went to Plan B, a tube tire he had with him. Seems like we all had to have our turn!
Have a good night, and at some point here I will be out of reach a couple days.👍
