I was hoping the lack of sleep and my ride yesterday would hurt me too much, knowing how strong and fast is Albert... It wasn't the best of conditions but it wasn't 90 plus degrees so it was all good. I met up with Albert at the Pemberton Super WaWa. I had no idea he was starting so early and get there way before me. I thought I was a head of him so I did a 1/2 mile back track and decided to turn a round thinking I mush Have just missed him. We started out of the parking lot heading to Magnolia Rd to 4 mile Circle Rte 70. Albert did the first pull from WaWa to Magnolia about 1.5 miles, I pulled next on Magnolia, I was going to do a 2 mile pull but at about 1.5 miles, Albert pulled up and took his turn... I guess my pull was a little slow so now the pace was much faster but since I was tight on his wheel, it didn't feel much more than my slower pull. we switched pulls from this point every mile which was perfect for me and brought back memories when Sid Holzter "The Original Iron Man"from our college days back in the 1970's where in track he would run the 1 mile, 3 mile and 6 mile races and I the Mile relay, 1/2 mile and 1 mile races, years later we trained cycling together In Sicklerville. When we hit Rte 70 we were moving quite well until we hit the first hill and Albert took off and did his thing powered up the hill! The one thing I learned if nothing else on our last ride was Albert loves to hit the hills hard... it was a blast from there until we got to Red Lion Road just past the Rte 206 Circle. The pace slowed a little so were able to talk and negotiate the rough road to Vincentown. From Vincentown to Fort Dix seemed to go by quickly as we were riding into a headwind. Once we got to Sailors Pond Rd and Rte 68 we separated ways as Albert headed home and worked my way back home. Albert had a few more miles to go to get his 50 plus miles in and I had much more to do. We had a great ride working each other equally hard in a good way! My legs were feeling beat with15 miles to go and at this point knowing if slowed it would be a super tough ride and unpleasant as the pain would set in, would feel like forever home. So I took advantage of every break I could, speeding up on every down hill or tale wind and taking every hill as hard as I could. This made the ride seem quicker until the last 3 miles when my legs were running out of gas. I did everything I could to maintain speed it was a struggle especially with a headwind and rough road for the last 1.5 miles, it was a killer. I thought of the saying, "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger!" Thanks Albert for a great ride and workout, until our next one... be safe out there!
