Tomorrow is the Stumpjumper and Aethos' first birthdays. I didn't think I was going to be riding much road this past year but the Aethos changed my mind. I put on 4,616.3 miles on it vs. 264.5 miles on the Stumpjumper. Still, the Stumpy rolls fast and efficiently which is surprising given how beefy its tires are. And I cleared all of the switchbacks I normally have problems with. Didn't have to dab or walk any. WOO!!! Love this bike! We were originally going to ride yesterday but postponed it because of the crazy winds. And it's supposed to snow tomorrow!!! Luckily it wasn't as cold as I thought it was going to be but we did run into an unexpected trail closure. I checked before and only Chaparral Trail was supposed to be closed. Unless The trails are incorrectly named on Strava, Rambler Trail to John Brooks and Elevator Trail was the section that was closed causing us to have to double back. Some of the trails seem to be wider and smoother after the storm which is nice. Other trails had more loose or exposed rock now from where the top layer of dirt has been washed away. And there were only a couple of muddy sections and some sections from last week that were mostly dry now. It was especially pretty in San Juan Canyon heading up to Sugarloaf Peak. On the way over from Waterdog, I was fortunate to run into Eli Smith-Morton. We'd been talking about meeting up but only over Strava with no great way to pass our contact info so this worked out perfectly.
