Well, for the Aethos' 1st birthday, I ended up doing a ride that's very much this bike's ethos. At the end of 2021, I didn't think I'd be doing as much road going forward and I was all about dirt. Then I got the Aethos and a year later I did mostly road in 2022 with 4,616.3 miles completed on it so far. Plot twist! :) I had thought about, and then didn't end up, going out several times today for various reasons. There was supposed to be rain but the skies looked fairly sunny so I ended up going in the end. I was only planning on doing a little tootle down to Sawyer Camp Trail but the trail was closed for some reason. That led me to go into Hillsborough where I learned all about the HILLS in Hillsborough when I turned left onto Hayne Rd. instead of right and did a nasty, 16% at times, climb, before turning around. At least of third of this ride was new roads, which was fun and cool. When I got to San Mateo, it was clear, if I went to Foster City, I'd get back after sunset so I took Palm Dr. for the first time. En route, it started to rain. It was heavier than anything today. I brought my Shakedry and intended to bring the fender but forgot to. Luckily it was only about 5 minutes and I didn't really get soaked. But the rain also meant I ended up taking a more direct route home up Alameda de las Pulgas. I didn't want to but at the time I didn't know how long the rain was going to last and I didn't want to get soaked. In the end I did way more climbing than I wanted to and it was sort of the opposite of a tootle.
